What’s happening at the hidden kitchen
The Hidden Kitchen is a 100% gluten free cafe featuring all-organic and locally sourced fare. We specialize in bioregional blue corn waffles and seasonal smoothies to satisfy a broad range of taste preferences. Our menu is simple yet the flavors extend beyond simplicity, adding lovely combinations of both bold and subtle tastes to excite the palate.
We exist to offer a healthy meeting place for our community to share in conversation, connect through experience, and gather around the one thing that has consistently brought many groups of people together: delicious food!
Earth care
We function with care of our planet at the forefront of our day-to-day operation. We source our food organically, as locally as possible, and as bioregionally as we can. This means that the food we serve can be found at the local farmers markets, and is most-likely growing, or capable of growing naturally and natively in our backyards. In order to honor our native traditions, we elected a blue corn strain that has been growing on the West Coast as one of the original 900 grains available to humankind. We limit our plastic use in the kitchen and offer only compostable and paper products to be taken away. Our water is recycled by caring for the plants we have on-site and all food waste is composted and sent to a farm less than two miles away to feed chickens and regenerate into fresh soil.
People care
Our dream to coordinate with the community stems from our deep values of gathering and upholding a feeling of belonging. We provide a space where connection, dialogue, and education are encouraged through conversation and guest talks, events, and other gatherings. Local creators and makers are supported in their trades by showcasing their products in our small market. Healthy lifestyles are promoted through information gathering, shared experiences, and nurturing food. We welcome all ages, all religions, all genders, and all human beings to enjoy the creative and fun space we are lucky to share in.
Fair Share
The Hidden Kitchen prides itself on its belief system of fairness and sharing. Not only sharing in the space, but sharing ourselves and who we are with our community. We offer our truest selves to the community we are part of and share our knowledge, our connections, and our space with all who wander into this sacred space.
Our very first day at the hidden kitchen, October 12, 2018. Thank you to the truly adventurous folks who happened to wander through our doors that day!
THE HIDDEN KITCHEN WOMEN
Amira was raised by two entrepreneurial parents who opened their own health food restaurant offering mediterranean cuisine called The Healthy Gourmet in the early 90s. She spent her early years between time at the restaurant and time spent in the kitchen with her Syrian grandparents, mostly eating raw dough balls and occasionally lending a hand. In 2016, Amira began her first business creating artisanal, grass-fed butter ghee in the same tradition that her grandmother taught her as a child. It was the search for a kitchen to make larger batches of ghee that led Amira & Amanecer to finding the magical space that is now The Hidden Kitchen.
Amanecer grew up in Big Sur, CA. At a young age, she stepped into the lively kitchen at the Esalen Institute. Spending many years alongside her community as they prepared meals for hundreds of people from all over the world gifted her the standard of love and care that was poured into the preparation of delicious meals. She knew she would one day prepare food that stood for love as well. Amanecer was raised by an Argentine father and took yearly trips to visit her family there. Through these trips she began to appreciate the shared values of community, gathering, and bringing loved ones together around delicious food.
